Volunteers arrived in Petrich and Veliki Preslav for on-arrival training, fieldwork, cultural exchanges and unforgettable moments with local communities.
First group arrived in Petrich town and our journey started with on-arrival training : to knowing each others and set rules for our life together. After that: explore culture, history and instructions how will organize our work..
The ancient city of Heraclea Sintica has been among the most attractive archaeological sites in the Balkans in the last 15 years. Ancient Greek and Latin authors, including Homer, Herodotus and Thucydides, wrote about it. And our dream is to discover finds from the father of Alexander the Great.
And in the very first days of our work, the team of Prof. Lyudmil Vagalinsky made a great find! A statue of a man, carefully stored in the city's basement. The statue is in excellent condition and, unlike many other finds, is intact. We expect the experts to say who the depicted man is and what the history of the statue is.
How to work with professional equipment? How to read artifacts? How to make a drawing of finds with different dates in time? Guide in the museum? How does the EU support young scientists? ... and many other questions of life
Banitsa - traditional bulgarian breakfast (burek as people in Turkey know it, and as we make a joke: Bulgarian version of lasagna), paella, music, good company and amazing friends....
Birthday, Trips, Exploring the landskape around, sea... the life is beautiful!
Birthdays, trips, nature walks and small discoveries around the town helped everyone recharge and enjoy the project beyond the schedule.
The counted days are ending very quickly, and as the project comes to a close, we reflect on all the incredible moments we’ve shared. As we look back, we realize that the experience has been so much more than just fulfilling, it has been life-changing. One of our participants from Turkey, who initially joined us with a background in Architecture, shared that this experience has inspired him to pursue a master's degree in Archaeology. It’s amazing to see how these moments together can shape and redefine our futures. Our hearts are full, and we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you, truly wonderful young people - whose dedication and passion made this journey unforgettable. Thank you for being part of something so special!
