Volunteers from different countries joined teams in Petrich and Veliki Preslav to uncover history, support museums and bring heritage closer to local communities.
The first days were all about arrivals, getting to know each other and understanding the local context before starting the fieldwork in and around Petrich.
With the guidance of archaeologists, volunteers uncovered layers of history, learned excavation techniques and helped to document the findings.
In Veliki Preslav the volunteers started with an introduction to the medieval capital, the museum team and the activities planned for the following weeks.
Field days at the archaeological site gave the volunteers hands-on experience with excavations, documentation and protection of artefacts.
During a visit to the municipality, the volunteers met the mayor to share their work, exchange ideas and discuss how heritage projects support the town’s future.
Exploring Veliki Preslav, nature walks and small everyday moments helped the group recharge and connect on a personal level.
The second Petrich team arrived full of energy, settled into the museum, explored the town and started to build trust and routines together.
At the end of the stay, volunteers received their certificates and celebrated everything they had learned, experienced and contributed to the local community.
