Dimitar Srebrov's House

About

Srebrov’s house is one of the most beautiful architectural landmarks in Shumen. Built in 1872 by the craftsman Usta Dragiya for the local merchant Dimitar Srebrov, the house is an example of the traditional Bulgarian architecture in the end of 19th century. An exposition inside the house shows the ethnic diversity in Shumen in the end of 19th century. There are special rooms, dedicated to every ethnic group: a well-lit parlour leads to a Romani room, а Turkish room, an Armenian and a Jewish room, all decorated with special objects belonging to each ethnic group’s culture. There is a retro photo room on the first floor where you can take a picture wearing one of the 150 authentic costumes from the Enlightenment era. Making photo sessions wearing stylish clothes is extremely popular. Here you have the opportunity to tackle your imagination with the exquisite elegance, beauty and luxury of the 19th and the beginning of 20th century. For instance, you can recreate the unique images of a shy newlywed couple or a high- class lady and a gentleman. Another room is redesigned into the “Volcano” hat atelier, with hats which are more than 100 years old. There is even a recreation of a hotel room from “San Stefano”, the first hotel in Shumen, decorated with replicas of its special furniture. Every month you can have a special wine tasting experience at the house basement. What’s more, you can create the civil marriage ritual of your dreams at the romantic yard of our favourite Srebrov’s house.
