About

I am Ömer, an archaeology student based in Turkey, and I am expected to graduate in July 2026. My first excavation experience took place at the Submerged Basilica in İznik (ancient Nicaea), Bursa. During this project, I participated in underwater archaeological excavations and gained hands-on experience with medieval-period finds. This was followed by my first land-based excavation at the ancient city of Gölyazı (Apollonia ad Rhyndacum), also located in Bursa. In 2024, I took part in the Inherited Culture 2024 Project, where I collaborated with participants from different countries during excavation works at Veliki Preslav. In 2025, I further expanded my field experience through two separate projects in Antalya. I participated in excavation works at the ancient city of Patara and later joined excavation and restoration studies at the ancient city of Termessos. Each excavation I joined involved different cultural contexts and material groups, allowing me to develop a broad archaeological perspective. I actively took part in the detailed documentation of cultural assets in excavation depots. In addition to fieldwork, I was responsible for maintaining excavation office computers, capturing drone-based aerial (bird’s-eye view) photographs of excavation areas, documenting excavation areas and finds, producing 3D documentation of excavation sites, preparing architectural drawings of archaeological remains using AutoCAD, classifying unearthed cultural materials, and carrying out field measurements using Nivo, CORS, and total station systems.
